... and I thought Bruce had a great shot of Saturn - excellent Geoff - telling Bruce that I can finally put my zwo on the 85mm refractor and see how it goes - so get ready for some cloudy nights again!!!

Beautiful Geoff. I reckon Jupiter shot is your best yet of that planet.

Friday 20th. A bit pleased with this one. Took 20,000 frames and stacked 62% of them. Not sure if it was the extra frames, better seeing or the storm is abating.

Nice Geoff - we must have been imaging at the same time - I reckon I'll have to take my 5X televue out of the train - too dark with just the 85mm aperture which means my frame rate is naturally low due to longer exposure times and more importantly missing those good times of seeing! (my stack was only around 2000 frames)
What was your total exposure time for this one?

Not sure of the total exposure time, probably about 4 minutes. I took 20,000 frames @ around 80/90 fps. I had been taking 10,000 exposure sessions however this was the last lot for the night so I just tried 20,000 for fun. I also ran dark frame subtraction along with it. Haven't tried flat frame subtraction as yet, not sure what that would improve on this anyway.

I remember looking at my frame rate and it was running at 10/15 fps - definitely have to try the 2X Televue and take out the 5X - like you said its fun!! I also tried on Venus (about 10 degrees off the horizon) it was shaking like a jelly - but surprisingly I managed to get my best image of the planet in phase - with a bit of the colouration you usually see from space-borne craft - again pretty amazing.

I was taking very small frames 320 *240 so that always helps the frame rate. I could have gone above 100fps however my computer will only handle about 80/90fps. I guess that isn't bad as it was applying the dark frame subtraction to each frame at that rate. I wish I could get Venus but I don't have a Westerly view. Maybe I will have a go when it is in the AM timeslot. Problem is remembering to get up early enough then dodging the hydro power lines. I know excuses excuses!!! Like to see that shot though.

Thanks Geoff that's a great idea regarding the frame size - not played with that - I'll keep the 5X in and see how the size goes - good to have you around to show me the way!!!! - I hate re-inventing the wheel!!! cheers, Merv
